A team of four employees from at Milford House Care Home in Salisbury recently completed a sponsored abseil to raise funds for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, who fly those in need to the relevant hospital emergency facility relying entirely on donations from the public to keep them flying and saving lives.

The abseil took place on 14th April, when Penka Apostolova, Senior Sister, Bill Smith, Head of Maintenance, Xia Xiaoying, Care Practitioner and Clare Nash, Carer abseiled down the side of the Avon Gorge near the Clifton Suspension Bridge in honour of the charity, and raised a total of over £500 with the support of sponsorship from donations.

Penka Apostolova has been a Sister at Milford House Care Home for the last six years. Residents, their relatives and staff at the home were cheering Penka and her workmates on as they aimed to raise as much money as possible.

Penka said: “My goal for taking part in this challenge was to raise awareness of the fantastic job the Wiltshire Air Ambulance undertake coming to the aid of people and families across the county. Wiltshire covers such a large area and we never know when any of us might need the help of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and their crew. Everyone at Milford House has been really supportive; I’m usually a little afraid of heights but it was for such a good cause so that kept me focused. I would do it again in a heartbeat.”
