Many of you may know that February 1st is Dignity Action Day. It’s a day that we always get involved with here a Richmond!
#DAD2022 is an annual opportunity for health and social care workers, and the public, to uphold people's rights to dignity and provide a memorable day for people who use care services.
We got up to some exciting antics!
However first and foremost the main event…
Many of you may remember our Christmas card appeal in December, amongst hundreds of cards and gifts we came across a letter from an 84 year old gentleman named Ron.
Ron, also known as the harmonica man used to visit care homes and play for the residents most often in the home his sisters were residents at. He has even been in on the Paul O’Grady show!
Ron wrote to us during our Christmas card appeal explaining that he would like to come to Richmond and play for our residents and of course we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take him up on the offer.
Fast forward to Dignity Action Day and Natasha had planned Ron’s visit!
Ron came in with his lovely wife having not played for a home in 11 years and spent an hour with our residents, he played like he had never been away!
Now this wasn’t our usual musical performance Ron played some of our absolute FAVOURITE golden oldies so brilliantly! Our residents all gathered around in the lounge and had an absolute ball. We were clapping and dancing along and even joined in with a sing song!
We are so grateful that Ron reached out to us to come and entertain everyone. He had even offered to come back on a monthly basis, our residents are super excited to see more of him.
Thank you for an amazing afternoon Ron, we have very much enjoyed watching and singing along with you. You were absolutely fantastic!!
We then had a lovely afternoon of tea and scones while putting our brains to work on our home “digni-tree”. Our residents each wrote on a leaf what dignity means to them, these were then all stuck into our dignity-tree.
Both our staff and residents love taking part in days like this. Here at Richmond, our activities coordinators Natasha and Tina always go above and beyond any of our expectations!
