Mark Francois, the MP for Rayleigh recently visited Sweyne Court Care Home to meet the people living and working there.

Mark expressed interest in visiting the home earlier this year, so they arranged a date when he could come along and find out more about the care home and how they operate.

He was welcomed with open arms at the beginning of August and was greeted by the Home Manager Maxine, her Deputy Ryan and Home Administrator, Donna. After saying their introductions, they took Mark on a tour of the home so he could see their facilities and meet the people living and working there.

During his tour, Mark admired the murals that had been installed on walls throughout the care suites and said they were ‘a lovely touch’. These bright murals help to create an exciting environment for the people who live there, especially for residents who live with dementia, as they act as visual reference points that help people to navigate around the home independently. Mark witnessed this during his visits and said “Sweyne Court has a very calm and homely feel.”

During his tour, Mark took the time to check in with members of the team, as well as Advanced Nurse Practitioner Julie and Leia, a Prescription Pharmacist from Audley Mills surgery. As part of his work, Mark helped to secure the expansion of the surgery which in turn has meant they are able to welcome more people to visit the GP. They enjoyed discussing the expansion and how it has helped people in the community.

Residents at Sweyne Court also spoke to Mark about life at the home and their thoughts about the local town. It was great to see residents connect with their local MP and helped them to feel involved with the community!

During his time at the home, Mark also observed some of the activities that were being hosted. This included bingo in the day centre as well as a calming activity in their multisensory room.

Before heading off, Mark spoke with Maxine and offered his support to the home and left his business card should they need to contact him for anything in the future.

"It was an honour to welcome Mark to Sweyne Court and host a tour of our facilities. Our team and the people who live here were grateful that he took the time to speak with them and offer his support. Thank you Mark,” Said Sweyne Court’s Home Manage, Maxine.
