Students from the School of Foundation Studies at Gloucestershire College have been busy creating wonderful advent calendar boxes for Wentworth Court residents to enjoy this month.
As part of their social action module, the students came up with the idea and planned the project plus created treats to go in the boxes. These were based on conversations with residents and visits to Gloucestershire College by Silus and Rachel from the wellbeing and community engagement team.
Students created hand-decorated gingerbread figures and reindeer-inspired hot chocolate drinks as treats for residents, while each box contains gifts and resources to stimulate the five senses, from cuddly toys to touch, to sparkly snow domes; from a photo montage of Cheltenham landmarks to stimulate memories and a download link to favourite tunes!
The students have got a lot from the project too, building their social skills, creative thinking and teamwork, with one of the students applying for a job because of the confidence he's gained by working with us!
It’s been a great experience for everyone involved, and we look forward to welcoming the group back again next year.
