It was all dragons and roses all round at Ouse View care home, in Fulford York, as residents and staff celebrated St George’s Day. Legend has it St George was a soldier in the Roman army who slayed a dragon and saved a princess, the anniversary of his death is celebrated as England’s national day.
In honour of the patron saint of England, staff and residents at the home marked the day with decorating the homes lovely lounge in St George’s Day bunting and flags, a St George’s Day themed quiz and most of all the residents were privileged to host a St George’s Day concert with live entertainer John Kellow. Giving the celebrations a gourmet twist, the head chef at the home Luke prepared some amazing St George’s Day themed buns for all to enjoy.
Resident and staff went all out on Wednesday to celebrate our patron saint, and what a fantastic day it was. The day kicked off with a fun-filled St George’s Day themed quiz to get everyone in the spirit. Then in the afternoon, we had the pleasure of welcoming back the wonderful John Kellow for a themed concert that had everyone singing and swaying along. He treated us to a brilliant mix of songs including classics like: There'll Always Be An England, England Swings, A Picture Of You, I'm Henry the Eighth, Rose of England, Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter, Pretty Flamingo, and so many more – ending perfectly with Jerusalem!
Activity Coordinator said: “Everyone at Ouse View really enjoyed today’s festivities. We had everything from an exciting quiz to listening to John Kellow perform to singing me happy birthday and everyone was really keen to get involved.
Brenda a resident, said “Celebrating St George’s Day today has been so enjoyable. I especially loved the quiz and hearing John again, we cannot forget about surprising Rachael with a round of Happy Birthday too, which was so much fun! The staff here think of everything to make sure we make the most of occasions like this.”
