Celebrating Excellence in Care Home Design
Meadowhill Care Home in Borehamwood has been named a finalist at the Healthcare Design Awards in the Best Interior Design Care Home category. This award recognises outstanding interior design in care homes and it celebrates projects that use colour, materials and signage to improve the resident experience. The ceremony will take place at the London Hilton on Park Lane on 12 February 2026.
A New Standard for Care Home Interiors
Meadowhill opened in April 2025 and introduced a modern approach to residential, nursing, dementia and respite care. The home combines luxury hotel style with evidence based interior design that supports wellbeing, independence and comfort. Residents enjoy private en suite bedrooms with calming colour schemes, a bright orangery, a welcoming bistro bar and themed lounges that encourage relaxation and connection. The home also includes a cinema, gym, hair and nail salon and flexible dining spaces. Outdoor areas such as the rooftop terrace and sensory gardens help residents enjoy natural light, fresh air and seasonal change.
Inspired by Borehamwood’s Creative Heritage
Design features throughout the home draw inspiration from the local area. Influences from Elstree Studios and The Lynx Club shape the character of several communal spaces. This creative approach gives the home warmth and personality and creates an environment that feels homely rather than clinical.
Every design choice supports confidence and orientation. Clear visual cues, intuitive layouts and sensory features help residents move around with ease. Staff work in calm, well planned areas that promote efficiency and comfort. Visitors often describe Meadowhill as a boutique-style environment due to its elegant and welcoming atmosphere.
A Focus on Sustainability and Long Term Value
Sustainability guided every stage of Meadowhill’s development. The home features durable materials, energy-efficient systems and on-site renewable energy. Solar panels and a combined heat and power unit help reduce environmental impact and support responsible energy use.
Proud Recognition for Meadowhill and Westgate Healthcare
Becoming a finalist highlights the creativity and collaboration behind Meadowhill’s design and it also reflects the vision of Westgate Healthcare. The group operates eight other care homes across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex and London, and it continues to grow with a new development planned to open in 2027 in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.
Tara Teubner, Director at Westgate Healthcare, said that the team feels incredibly proud of this achievement and she added, “We set out to create a care home that truly enriches everyday life for residents, families and staff. Being named a finalist reflects the passion, creativity and commitment behind Meadowhill.”
The team now looks forward to the awards evening and remains committed to delivering exceptional experiences for residents, relatives and staff across all Westgate Healthcare communities.
