The policies we as a nursing home have to comply with may seem obstructive but we have a duty of care to our staff/residents, as such, policies are written in line with CQC regs. Our Senior Physio assessed this resident and concluded she was unable to bear her own weight enough to safely sit on a toilet. Many homes “overlook” these risks and use illegal lifting/moving techniques, we will not put our staff/residents at risk. Bedpans are provided for those who can use them, not for incontinent patients, and even more so for someone with no sitting balance. We don’t hide behind policies, we comply with them.  <br>This lady was not left in soaking clothes, on numerous occasions, the family buzzed stating she was wet/soiled, when checked the pad was dry/unsoiled, we have documented evidence of this. Mealtimes are protected to enable residents to enjoy their meals without disturbance.  <br>We have 22 residents to care for, and some of them have complex needs requiring more attention.
