Deputy Manager

We are looking for a Deputy Manager to work within our mental health services with a wonderful charity combating homelessness and marginalisation across Sussex.

Location: Brighton, East Sussex
Salary: £33,899 plus additional pay for on-call duties
Contract: Full Time – Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week

About the role:

As Deputy Manager, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality support, an innovative high-support service providing accommodation and intensive one-to-one and group support for 20 individuals with mental health diagnoses, dual diagnosis, and complex needs.

You will work in a psychologically and trauma-informed way, promoting recovery, growth, and empowerment to help clients move on to lower support accommodation. Supporting the Operational Manager, you will oversee service delivery including staff development, referrals and move-on, health and safety, housing management, budgets, and partnership working. You will also provide day-to-day guidance and line management to the team, ensuring staff wellbeing and continuous improvement across the service.

As Deputy Manager you will:

  • Assist with the coordination of referrals and client move-on, ensuring agreed timelines and minimising void loss
  • Report to commissioners and partner agencies, contributing to service reviews and reports
  • Work alongside Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to provide structured, recovery-focused support
  • Undertake line management responsibilities including regular supervision, appraisals, and reflective practice with staff
  • Deputise for the Operational Manager in their absence
  • Support policy reviews, risk assessments, and health & safety within the project
  • Participate in the management on-call system

Key skills and experience include:

  • Experience of working in support services for people with mental health and complex needs
  • Knowledge of psychologically informed environments and trauma-informed care
  • Experience of staff management and leadership, including performance, supervision, and wellbeing support
  • Strong understanding of housing management and health & safety in a residential setting
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, Care Act legislation, and mental health frameworks
  • Ability to deliver, monitor, and report on key performance targets (service, staff, client, financial)
