Local insurance broker Towergate Patrick has helped raise more than £350,000 pounds for ChildLine, according to figures released today.
Many of the businesses’ employees demonstrated their fund raising support through activities including circumnavigating the 434 mile ‘boundary of Yorkshire counties in the Yorky Walky Talky, sponsored sky-dives and office dress-down days. Towergate Partnership matched client and staff donations to reach this incredible figure.
The money has enabled ChildLine to recruit and train 47 volunteer counsellors in London who have been part of the local team that have helped thousands of children in danger and distress.
ChildLine founder and President Esther Rantzen said: “This wonderful donation will transform many, many children’s lives. We know when children get through to us, sometimes suicidal, sometimes suffering agonizing bullying or abuse, we can save precious young lives and bring abusers to justice. But we also know that one third of our callers still can’t get through to the comfort and protection they urgently need.
“My heartfelt thanks to Towergate’s staff, customers and business associates for their generous donations to ChildLine. Their support is so important and will enable us to help thousands more children get through to ChildLine by phone or online, whatever problems they need to talk about.”
ChildLine counsellors provide in-depth counselling to children for a whole range of problems from physical or sexual abuse through to worries about exams, pregnancy and bullying. ChildLine is on hand 24 hours seven days a week for any child whatever their problem.
Sue Lee Managing Director of Towergate Patrick said: “A company is not just about great business performance, it’s also about having a heart and soul. We’re therefore delighted to make this donation to ChildLine which does such a wonderful job helping young and vulnerable children who need help and support”.
