Tanner & Tilley Town Planners have recently helped secure an approval for a change of use of a Providence Projects care provision sites, changing the use from a House in Multiple Occupancy to a C2 Care Use, this means that the clients attending the centre will be able to have a resident carer in attendance for some or all of the time.
Providence Projects is a not for profit organisation offering abstinent based residential day care counselling and rehabilitation for people requiring treatment for a wide range of disorders including anxiety and depression; obsessive compulsive disorders; dependence upon alcohol and other drugs; eating disorders; and problems associated with gambling. They have had recent press regarding celebrities such as Paul Gasgoine being in residence.
Since 1996 Providence Projects have continued to develop a programme of residential day care and have over the years worked in partnership with Bournemouth Adult Mental Health Team, The Pines Bail Hostel and Bournemouth Probation and the Police, among others. The Project has been awarded a variety of tenders and has become the ‘counselling service of choice’ for organisations such as Transport for London who, for the last 14 years, have sent their staff for treatment for alcoholism and trauma before returning to work.
This is great news for Providence Projects who can enhance the care and services they provide for people undergoing treatment within the local community. This is also a more beneficial arrangement for local residents living nearby as it will mean that there will be a member of staff on site, providing more structure and control to the existing set up.
Tanner & Tilley are delighted to have been involved in this project which means that the centre can now provide a more structured care system and that the local residents will have the security of knowing there is full time Care staff in attendance.
Steve Spiegal founder and CEO of providence projects commented after receiving news of the approval “This is the second time that we have used Tanner & Tilley as our planning consultants and the service both times was second to none, this approval is marvellous for Providence Projects and will provide a much more structured environment for our clients at this site and will enable us to provide help to more people in their darkest times.”
Providence projects perhaps largest client is Transport for London which has over 28000 employees and they have a unique approach to drug and alcohol problems offering their staff rehabilitation programmes involving the work of Providence Project who get involved with around 100 such cases every year.
This approval comes on the back of the article 4 Direction form Bournemouth Borough Council that in order to use a building falling within class C4, HMO ( House in Multiple Occupation) from a C3 Dwellinghouses there needs to be a planning permission for this purpose , thus removing the permitted development rights. If you have any queries about Houses in Multiple Occupation and the need for Planning Permission then contact Carlie O’Neill Business Executive at Tanner & Tilley on 01202 430348.
