The team at Horsell Lodge invited Breakthrough Breast Cancer to the period property recently to receive a hefty donation towards fighting Breast Cancer.

Horsell Lodge Activities Coordinator Val Tyler survived breast cancer a few years ago and was keen to give something back to those who supported her through a difficult time. As such, she has nominated Breakthrough Breast Cancer to receive a donation from the Caring Homes Group, which runs Horsell Lodge.

The family-owned company currently runs around 60 care homes across the UK and recently set up their annual charity fund ‘20k Winning for Your Good Causes.’ The fund was set up to enable employees to nominate good causes that they are supporting outside of work for sizeable donations. Other recipients have been the Road Victims Trust, Macro Uganda and Asthma UK.

Val told us:

‘Before Christmas last year I saw a global email to all of the Caring Homes Group employees inviting them to nominate a charity of their choice for a donation from the £20,000 Caring Homes Group annual charities fund.

Thankfully my application was successful and I received a cheque for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. This charity is very close to my heart as I am a 7-year survivor myself. I also lost a close friend to breast cancer two and a half years ago.

Consequently I am pleased to be able to do something positive to help – raising funds and awareness is vital to help eradicate this dreadful disease. The £1,000 awarded will support their vital research work.’

The Horsell Lodge team were pleased to welcome Maggie Dickens, a representative from Breakthrough Breast Cancer (Surrey Group) to receive the giant cheque for £1,000.

Maggie added:

‘We want to say a huge thank you to the Caring Homes Group for their generosity, and many thanks to everyone for their support. I am looking forward to our Go Pink Day later in the year when we hope to raise even more funds.’

Located on the outskirts of Woking, Horsell Lodge provides residential care for up to 40 elderly ladies and gentlemen. The home is run by the family-owned Caring Homes Group, which was founded in 1994 by mother and son team, Helena and Paul Jeffery.
