Four fit fundraisers from Northamptonshire are getting ready to saddle up and complete three charity bike rides in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
The team from Westlands Care Home, in Wellingborough, is made up of manager Sean McCloskey, activities co-ordinator Daniel Aimes, outreach co-ordinator Karen Wells and senior staff member Raice Cook.
On the first of their rides, which will take place on 21 July, the team will set off from the care home and ride around Wellingborough, visiting as many businesses as possible to collect donations and raise awareness of the Alzheimer’s Society and the work it does. On 7 September they will ride to Ashley Court in Kettering, which is Westlands’ sister home.
Finally, their biggest challenge will take place in London on 25 October when they take part in a special Halloween Moonride around the city, which will see them cycle 100km in one night.
Speaking about their fundraising project, Mr Aimes said: “We recognise the importance and role of the Alzheimer’s Society and their continued fight against dementia. We aim to raise awareness and fundraise for a fantastic and important cause.”
Liz Monks, director of fundraising at the Alzheimer’s Society, said: “We’re delighted that Westlands Care Home has chosen to support Alzheimer’s Society through these bike rides. We wish all of those taking part the best of luck when they climb on the saddle and thank them for their efforts in preparing for pedalling hard in support of our cause. Funds raised will help support people with dementia today whilst we search for the cure for tomorrow.”
