Residents and staff at a Scunthorpe care home threw open their doors on Friday and offered everyone a warm welcome to their event to mark this year’s Care Home Open Day.
Sandhills Court Bupa Care Home was joined by Nic Dakin, MP Scunthorpe, who looked around the home before spending time with the residents, enjoying a music and movement themed event with dance troop demonstrations, live entertainment and much more.
Nic said: “It was lovely to visit everyone at Sandhills Court and experience such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Many residents aren’t able to attend my surgeries, so it was nice to be able to meet people and answer any questions.
“It’s important that we support older people in our communities and the dedication from staff at the home is inspiring. I enjoyed discussing how we can help make older people feel safer and help combat loneliness and isolation.”
General Manager, Karen Champion commented: “We hold regular events and parties at the home, but it was a pleasure to have Nic join us for this year’s Care Home Open Day. It was a fantastic day all round – it’s a wonderful opportunity to bring people together, help residents build new friendships and celebrate older people in the community.”
Now in its 7th year, Care Home Open Day is a national calendar day when care homes in Great Britain are encouraged to invite their local community and the wider public to see what enjoyable and stimulating places they can be to both live and work in. It encourages homes to celebrate a different theme each year, with key values at its heart: friendship, making connections and celebrating older and vulnerable people.
Bupa’s Sandhills Court is purpose-built and welcomes anyone in need of nursing or residential care, including those living with dementia. Residents are offered a full programme of regular and seasonal activities, as well as 24-hour access to highly trained medical and care staff.
