National Limerick Day at Queens Oak Care Home

On Wednesday 12th May, Queens Oak Care Home in London celebrated National Limerick Day: a day dedicated to the short, often cheeky, poems.

Julia, one of the residents at Queens Oak, really loves writing poems and prose, and admitted that limericks are some of her favourite types of poems. So, when she found out that it was National Limerick Day, she got very excited and asked if she could write one of her own. The team sat down with her to put together a limerick, and Julia was very happy with the result.

Her principle area of work is as an artist, and she mostly enjoys making coloured drawings and cards, so the team helped her to combine this with her love of poetry. They wrote a collection of poems on the coloured cards, perfect for Julia to distribute to all her friends and loved ones.

Julia had a great time putting this all together, and her poem can be found below.

Queens Oak Garden is the place to be, why not come out into it with me to see

Birds and flowers everywhere and a lovely tree to sit on a comfortable deck chair.

This shoaly must be the place to fare

Among all the flowers and grass are everywhere.

How can you resist it the answer should be no.

But live room for me to still be there even so
