HC-One’s Foley Grange Care Home, in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, recently hosted a memorable Chef Development Day, providing residents with an interactive and delicious experience as part of the home’s Catering & Housekeeping Support Services Workshop plan.

The event was led by HC-One’s Group Development Chef, Matthew O’Brien, which brought residents together to create some seasonal treats. The day’s activities were designed with the residents in mind to offer an immersive experience, where they could take part in hands-on cooking sessions alongside the group’s expert chefs.

In the morning, residents rolled up their sleeves and got creative in the kitchen, baking Easter egg cheesecakes, devilled chick eggs, and Creme Egg brownies – delicious treats that added to the festive atmosphere. A relaxed taster session took place in the afternoon at Foley Grange's luxury cinema room, where residents enjoyed sampling their freshly made goodies while socialising in a cosy and comfortable setting. Beth Phillips, HC-One’s Foley Grange Front of House Manager, said: “We were very lucky to be involved in this exciting opportunity. The residents thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the cooking process and loved tasting their delicious homemade treats. “It was also wonderful to have students from Nova Training Kidderminster join us to hand-deliver Easter cards to our residents. It was an enjoyable day for everybody involved.”

Students from Nova Training Kidderminster played a key role in the afternoon activities, delivering Easter cards to residents and assisting with the taster session. The students’ involvement added a heart warming touch to create even more opportunities for interaction and connection within the community.

The Chef Development Day is part of a broader initiative that seeks to provide residents with tailored experiences that enhance their wellbeing and engagement. Group Development Chefs work closely with Wellbeing Coordinators to offer a range of activities, including recipe tasting sessions, themed days based on the HC-One calendar, and pop-up workshops such as baking classes and cooking demonstrations – all aimed at encouraging resident involvement in daily life. Matthew O’Brien, HC-One’s Group Development Chef, commented: “Our goal is always to create meaningful experiences for our residents, and this day was a perfect example of that. By engaging in cooking and baking activities, the residents were able to connect with each other and enjoy the fruits of their labour. The collaboration with Nova Training Kidderminster added an extra layer of joy to the day.”
