Gibraltar Nursing Home recently held their own quiz night hosted by one of the residents, fondly referred to as family member. Mark took on the role of quizmaster, reading out questions and revealing answers to those who chose joined in, testing their general knowledge in hopes to win the prizes at stake.
From a young age Mark’s thirst for knowledge always stood out to others, having taken three languages at A-level, and going on to work as a solicitor. He is well respected in the Monmouth home, with administrator Bridget describing him as being ‘very well educated and has etiquette running through his veins.’
Alongside this, he is also a popular and well-loved family member in the home’s community, known particularly for his great sense of humour. With Mark being a familiar face, this added a personal touch to the evening, and activities such as these allow family members to feel recognised and valued by both their peers and team members.
The quiz consisted of a variety of questions, narrowed down to 20 from Mark’s original list of 80, with different categories such as football, the royal family and the Beatles. The family members were encouraged to shout out their answers, whilst Mark took the opportunity to educate and humour the crowd.
The Gent’s House at the Monmouth care home is a dedicated space for male residents, and the men-only environment has had a clear positive impact on wellbeing, helping build friendships, boost confidence and create a sense of ease. This comfort shows up in small, everyday ways, some of the gents who come from a time when being fully dressed was expected now feel free to relax in loungewear, speak more openly in familiar language, or enjoy a quiet cigarette together in the greenhouse. At the same time, opportunities like quiz nights allow them to socialise with other households whenever they choose.
