Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of Old Hastings House care home in Hastings, East Sussex.

Old Hastings House is a care home registered for 60 residents. It comprises a main building that was built in 1700 and became the home of an eighteenth-century mayor of Hastings. The house has 44 en suite bedrooms, three-quarters of which are situated within the two extensions built in the 1980s. Its Magdalen Higher Care Suite has a further 15 en suite bedrooms. In February 2023, its owners also opened the All-Saints Suite, which increased its dedicated and secure dementia provision to 24 rooms.

The landmark home sits in an attractive residential area in the centre of Hastings, with beautiful views across Hastings Old Town and within walking distance of the shops and train station.

It has been owned by The Magdalen and Lasher Charity since 1981. Following a confidential sales process with John Harrison at Christie & Co, the home has been sold to Mr and Mrs Thind, who already successfully operate The Laurels Nursing Home in Hastings, which they have transformed since buying it in 2006.

John Harrison, Director – Care at Christie & Co, comments, “I am delighted to have sold Old Hastings House for The Magdalen and Lasher Charity following a confidential sales process. We received strong interest, and I am sure that Mr and Mrs Thind will be able to use their considerable experience in the local care market to ensure the strong, well-established reputation Old Hastings House enjoys will continue. This sale shows the good demand we are continuing to see for care homes across the South East.”

Old Hastings House was sold for an undisclosed price.
