Kings Court Care Home in Newark is inviting the community to join residents and colleagues in a range of activities to mark World Alzheimer’s Month including their wear it purple to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society and a Memory Friendly Game Day as part of World Alzheimer’s Month.
The home will also host its ‘Wear It Purple’ fundraising event from 19th – 21st September, encouraging people to come together to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s, show support for those living with the condition, and help fund vital research into prevention and cures. Donations can be made at the home’s front desk.
The week commencing the 22nd September will also consist of a range of World Alzheimer's Month related activities and events including a brain health activity on Tuesday 23rd September, 10.30am – 12pm which will challenge residents in different ways to engage their brains, and aims to raise awareness around improving brain health whilst also providing guests with the opportunity to take part in a brain health quiz and obtain information about maintaining and improving brain health, surrounded by like-minded people. This will then be followed by an afternoon of playing old school games and light refreshments between 2pm – 3pm. The event will include the opportunity for socialisation and a chance to enjoy a selection of refreshments.
This year, the events also mark a moment of reflection, as the home celebrates the end of a joyful summer of activities, including garden parties, music sessions and afternoon teas. Kings Court residents and colleagues are now looking ahead to the autumn months, with preparations underway for upcoming seasonal dates such as Harvest Festival and World Mental Health Day.
As part of marking World Mental Health Day, Kings Court Care Home are hosting an open day event on Friday 10th October, 11am – 4pm, welcoming in members of their local community to socialise to combat loneliness, enjoy light refreshments and take part in a range of engaging activities to help improve brain health. The event will provide the opportunity for guests to have a look around the home, whilst also seeing what the home has to offer and enjoying the open spaces including the garden room, lounge, cinema room and café.
Catherine Skorin, Front of House Manager at HC-One’s Kings Court Care Home, said:
“We’re really proud to be supporting World Alzheimer’s Month here at Kings Court. Wearing purple is a simple but powerful way to show our support for people living with Alzheimer’s, and it also helps us raise important funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. We’ve had a wonderful summer filled with events and activities, and now we’re looking forward to the warmth and togetherness of autumn, with celebrations like Harvest Festival and our Open Day event bringing our community even closer.”
