Since Mum has been at Purbeck House, I feel that she feels safe. The staff are amazing, although run off their feet. When they’re not busy I’ve seen them sitting with the residents, but they don’t seem to interact/talk to them very much. Mum seems to be well cared for and settled. They have an outside
garden that I feel isn’t very user-friendly. There are steps with no handrail to get to the garden, and I don’t feel that they are encouraged to use it often. The steps in the house to the dining area are also a trip hazard as many like Mum have walkers to help them get around. The atmosphere is friendly, but the residents seem to be a mixed bag of needs, which the staff manage really well, but I think it’s hard for the residents who don’t have dementia, to fully understand those that do. Maybe use different areas for different needs?
Overall, I would say that it has a warm, family run feel to it.

Reply from Jerome Peterpaul, Director at Purbeck House

Thank you for your kind words/feedback. We place the safety and well-being of our residents as our priority and are delighted to hear you feel so too.
We hear your feedback and would like to provide some info on this.
Although the garden is hard ground, residents are encouraged to take advantage of. There is a handrail leading down to our patio area. We do our best to bring the outdoors to our residents, when they cannot go outdoors, packages such as Incredible Eggs, where residents can experience the hatching of ducklings, allow us to bring nature into our home.
We do understand that some steps may not be as ideal as a flat floor plan, but we take pride in our staff who do their utmost to ensure residents remain safe. We also speak highly of the relationships our residents hold with staff/vice versa as you mentioned. We embrace a family feel to our home, because it is and we encourage residents to understand to use it as they please.
Thank you for your kind words and trust in us.
