Valley Lodge is located in one of Chandler's Ford's most exclusive areas, and is minutes from the M3 and M27. The property stands in a mature half-acre plot and can be enjoyed by residents in the summer and wildlife throughout the year. Valley Road is a quiet location, but very conveniently situated.

The home is registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection to accommodate 30 older people, including those with early dementia. Accommodation is offered in bedrooms that are grouped around separate living and dining areas so that, from a resident's perspective, each "side" of the home accommodates about 15 people.

All bedrooms exceed the National Minimum Standards for Care Homes. Many of them have en-suite facilities. Residents are encouraged to use their bedrooms and the communal areas throughout the day. They are welcome to install television sets and telephone lines in their rooms.

A good menu selection is offered at breakfast, a cooked meal at midday and a choice of sandwiches or hot snack in the evening. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served throughout the day. A specially designed menu has been drawn up with the help of residents and is regularly reviewed to ensure satisfaction.

I am very pleased with the overall care that my husband receives. I find the staff very friendly and cooperative. They are very courteous to the residents and have infinite patience. I think more fresh fruit could be added to the residents diet. In some cases, there is too much food on the dinner plate
for the mid day lunch. The activities are noted but I am not aware of my husband's participating, although I appreciate that he is not that mobile. I must admit I have not asked.

The staff at Valley Lodge are amazing and treat Mum as if she were their own family. Mum is always included in all activities and treated with respect in a difficult situation having dementia.

Very good, it was my wife's and I first time having to consider care for one of our relatives. The initial contact with the staff at Valley Lodge was both compassionate and caring. They have guided us through this very difficult period with knowledge and care for which we will be forever thankful.
My Father-in-law has settled in very well and we both feel we have made a good choice.

The staff were excellent in settling in my Mum upon her arrival, which was very comforting. The rooms are spacious with the large ensuite still giving independence to the resident. The food is good quality and varied. Nice views and a relaxed atmosphere. Really good staff, nothing is a bother to them
and excellent for advice.

Lack of feedback on requests for haircare, podiatry, hearing aid batteries and medical care is an ongoing problem. Sometimes no staff are around who can supply answers and management is not very visible. Having a receptionist would speed up entry and exit and would be a focal point for enquiries as
mentioned above.

The care home is very friendly, very helpful in any personal matters. My husband is happy to be there and enjoys the food. My big worry was that he was falling quite a lot, I think something has been put in place now so that he has someone with him when he goes for a walk.

Current Review Score: 7.9 (7.929)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.9 (7.929) out of 10 for Valley Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.128 for Valley Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (15 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 4.128

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.801 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Valley Lodge is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.4 = 0.426

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
