Purpose of Role:
Help residents engage in activities promoting mental, emotional, meaningful and physical stimulation. Create a varied and enriched programme of events and research and prepare for key events during the year. Organise off-site visits as well as entertainers and visitors to come into the Home. Record and profile the activities undertaken – create links with local community and organise local press releases. Encourage and adopt a happy and where appropriate, lively atmosphere within the Home for the enjoyment of residents. Maintain accurate records of expenditure within the agreed budget. Oversee and carry out supervisions and appraisals of any activity assistants.
Core Responsibilities & Duties:
· Liaise with the Registered Manager and other colleagues in the development of an activity programme, linked to the individual care plans of residents
· Talk with residents and family members to find out hobbies and individual preferences and ideas for activities
· Organise activities tailored to the needs and abilities of individuals, as well as group activities that bring individuals together
· Plan events that satisfy the religious and cultural needs of individual residents
· Work with local community groups to create links and involvement with activities inside and outside the Home
· Liaise with external companies and performers from the local community to organise days out/events at the home
· Produce and update an activity planner for the Home and circulate information to residents and family members
· Ensure that activities are well-planned for and risk assessed with the safety of residents being paramount, considering transport and accessibility arrangements when going off-site
· Work to a set activities budget
· Assist and encourage residents, family members and care staff where appropriate, to take part in activities and events
· Organise 1:1s with residents which may involve reminiscing tools, reading or a cup of tea and a chat
· Communicate any changes of interest in residents to appropriate caring / nursing staff
· Organise birthday celebrations for each resident
· Write and submit articles for the website
· Support the Home with social media channels as required
· Assist with serving drinks and breakfast, lunch and dinner duties as appropriate and necessary
· To complete relevant training courses to the role
· Any other reasonable tasks as expected by your line manager
