Job summary

This position is to cover maternity leave from approximately June 2025 for six months (maybe longer).

An 'outstanding', award-winning residential care home based in Romford requires a hard-working and EXPERIENCED Senior Carer to work at night within a team of Carers.  This position is for full time (three shifts per week) working 8pm to 7am and including weekends.  The successful candidate MUST have NVQ/QCF level 3 or equivalent.  Honestly and reliability is essential.  Full in house training, particularly in relation to dementia and end of life care, is given.

Key responsibilities:

  • To assist the Registered Manager in their professional duties.
  • To promote professional high standards of care during the night. 
  • To supervise, build and participate in good working relationships within the Care Team and maintain high standards of care and service towards service users, relatives, visitors and other members of staff
  • Take overall responsibility for managing the premises at night. 
  • To identify with the Registered Manager methods of developing his/her skills to enhance the highest standards of care and service delivery.
  • To lead the night care team under the supervision of the Registered Manager and to ensure that standards are maintained and that there is always sufficient cover to meet the service requirements.
  • The safe administration of medication to service users
  • The provision of the highest standard of holistic care and attention for the residents and report any changes
  • The promotion of independence and dignity of service users and assist in enabling service users to live their chosen lifestyle
  • Assisting in maintaining the safe levels of care and ensuring safe practices.
  • The recognition of pain and discomfort, monitor and minimise pain and record appropriately
  • Monitor pressure care and support staff in the provision of pressure care.
  • Assisting in maintaining records, ensuring a high quality of record keeping.
  • Ensuring adherence to the Health and Safety; and Equality and Diversity policies and procedures
  • Reporting bad practice or abuse to a service user within the care home.
  • Promoting high standards of infection control measures
  • Promoting high levels of palliative care.
  • Ensuring that care plans are in place to meet the needs of each service user and to see that these are maintained, ensuring that residents personal and social needs are assessed and met in ways which affirm their dignity, choice and opportunity.
  • Liaising with next of kin, GP, Social Workers, District Nurses and other professionals, as required.
  • Ensuring the health and safety of service users and their possessions.
  • Attending staff training and staff meetings.
  • Undertaking any aspects of care or non-caring roles as requested by the Registered Manager.
  • To lead the care staff team, under the supervision of the Registered Manager and consult, as and when appropriate.
  • Ensure there is sufficient cover to meet the service requirements.

Previous experience is ESSENTIAL.  Satisfactory references, proof of qualifications and an enhanced DBS will be required.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Experience of managing and supervising staff
  • • At least one year’s experience in same or related field
  • NVQ3 (or equivalent) - essential
