Job summary

Position:    KITCHEN Assistant (Full-Time)

 YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE ROLE OF KITCHEN ASSISTANT ARE AS FOLLOWS:

·  To wash up crockery, cutlery, etc excluding cooking utensils

·  To clean work surfaces, floors and lower wall surfaces, which must be performed in a safe manner

·  To assist in the serving of breakfast

·  To prepare mid - morning and afternoon drinks

·  To hold a suitable food hygiene certificate or willing to undertake one

·  To dispose of waste correctly.  The waste disposal unit must be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Plastic bags containing waste must be tied securely before they are placed in the large waste bins outside

·  To ensure that when in use the hot water boiler is refilled as necessary and that the thermostat is reduced to simmer when the water is boiling

·  To assist the Cook to ensure that food is used within the prescribed period, with particular attention to milk, bread and other perishable goods.  Perishable foods should be rotated using the oldest food first.  All foods should be stored properly when not in use

·  To inform the Cook when dish washer detergents are low, or when there is a malfunction with the machine

·  All relevant Knellwood’s Policies and Procedures must be read and signed off

·  Ensure that all relevant information is handed over at the change of shifts

·  To be knowledgeable regarding health and safety at work, including environmental health

·  To be knowledgeable regarding emergency procedures pertaining to our Residents

·  To perform all other reasonable duties when asked by the Cook or Head of Service

·  To have knowledge of and the use of any equipment within Knellwood, and to check its usability regularly for safety

·  To attend all training and staff meetings as required by Knellwood.

·  To undertake any reasonable duties that may be required by the Head of Service or the Associate Matron
