An exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen at Amber Lodge Nursing Home for an Activities Coordinator to join our team and contribute positively to providing a Friendly, Fun and resident Focussed experience for our service users.
Amber Lodge is a Nursing Home caring for residents with Nursing and/or Dementia care needs. We have a maximum capacity for 40 residents (across two floors) with access to outside secure garden space.
Activities are well resourced including the provision of a state of the art interactive table/screen for game play, specialised video apps and via which video calls with family members can be made
The successful applicant will have an imaginative, dynamic and engaging ‘people person’ personality with experience of working within a care of the elderly environment.
The successful candidate will need to be able to relate to residents with a variety of needs and be able to think creatively about how to involve them in activities.
You must have a passion for working collaboratively with the Care and Nursing teams to deliver life enhancing, person centred activities to improve the quality of life for our residents and maximise their capabilities/independence wherever possible.
You will work with families and staff to make birthdays and seasons and events extra special and be a key point of contact updating families on their loved ones’ involvement in life enhancing activities and contribute to the compiling of a regular newsletter.
Objectives of the job
- To ensure residents have the opportunity to participate in activities within the home. To improve the wellbeing and overall health of the people living in the home
- To ensure that services are consistently provided to a high quality standard
- To assist in the care of the resident’s physical environment and in the general day-day activities of the care home
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
Organisation-wide: -
- To work as part of an efficient team and to contribute to the smooth running of the Care Home
- To continue professional development through attending and contributing to internal/external training and development, meetings and Supervisions
- To comply with Rosmead Healthcare’s Health & Safety policy and procedures at all times
- To represent Rosmead Healthcare in a professional and positive manner at all times and in all communications with residents, visitors and staff
- To maintain confidentially regarding all issues and information relating to residents and the Home
Functional: -
- Organise and coordinate activities to promote interest and improve/maintain dexterity and physical and mental wellbeing
- Organise an activities programme that will maintain interest and progression over a period of time and ensure that this is displayed throughout the home and is delivered within budget.
- This should include adherence to national and religious festivals.
- To purchase any items that are necessary for the activities program with the agreement of the Home Manager
- To ensure that all social care assessments are completed for residents
- To plan, organise and document all activities which take place, in the residents personal file
- To organise any day of celebration and keep records of resident’s birthdays
- To organise outings as appropriate
- To work closely with care staff and keep them informed of activities and involved in activities.
- To keep the Home Manager informed of all activities
- Following appropriate training Assist residents who have limited mobility, or physical/learning difficulties, making the best use of mobility aids and personal equipment provided
- Closely monitor residents who may be confused and/or have behaviors that may challenge and report concerns as appropriate
- Manage social activities by interacting with residents and helping them continue hobbies and activities in the Care Home to enhance quality of life
- To contribute to the protection of vulnerable adults from abuse
- Provide comfort and company, on a one to one basis, for residents who are unable to participate in other activities
- When required to assist at meal times and promote the mealtimes as a social experience
- Record and report resident social observations in care plans to ensure maintenance of accurate and up to date records
- Work within Care Home policies/ procedures to ensure maintenance of safe working practices for residents and other colleagues
- Follow security procedure in order to ensure the safety of residents, visitors, belongings’ and the property as a whole
- To answer assistance calls, telephones, take and pass on accurate messages to the Line Manager
- Any other duties that the Home may at times reasonably require
Competencies
To professionally represent Rosmead Healthcare in all dealings with individuals and external contacts
- Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to accurately complete care plans and maintain up to date information
- To maintain personal contact with clients through individual and group discussion/interaction under direct or indirect supervision from qualified staff
- Co-operate and maintain good working relationships with other colleagues that are attending and treating clients to maximise resident care
- Maintain good relationships and an empathetic and professional approach to residents, and relatives
- Experience of communicating effectively with residents, partners, stakeholders and other relevant bodies
Knowledge/Qualifications
- Have experiences of caring for people e.g. raising a family, caring for elderly relatives, work within a care home setting essential voluntary or paid experience
- Be willing to train and work towards an NVQ 3
- Ability to show empathy, understanding and experience of the needs of the residents
- Well developed time management skills with the ability to work under pressure
- Ability to make balanced, clear and timely decisions
- Takes a pro–active approach to consulting and involving in decision making processes as appropriate
- Knowledge of food hygiene preparation or a willingness to learn
- Undertake mandatory training
- Undertake training in specialist subjects
