My brother has only recently moved into Amber Lodge (6 weeks ago) and have only visited only 3/4 times so far (distance)
So far, all the staff I have met have been warm, welcoming and ready to answer any questions I may have. My brother seems happy enough and is being well cared for, but I cannot comment
further as it is still early days.

My mother has only been a resident for 2 weeks. She went into the home from the hospital for a 4-week assessment with the possibility of becoming a permanent resident. I only had a day to decide if Amber Lodge would be a good fit for my mum, so I had a short visit and was impressed by the staff and
the amount of staff that I could see around. They all seem to genuinely want to look after the residents and seem to have a lot of patience with them. If there is one criticism, it would be that it's very dated inside, and would benefit from a bit of an uplift in decor and a bit of fresh paint.

Whilst the staff are lovely and helpful, the room which my aunt is in is in dire need of redecoration which I was advised last year was going to be done. It is currently a very depressing colour with brown paintwork.
On a different note with the recent improvements I have seen at the home perhaps this
will be done sooner than later. Finally, her son phones from the USA and the phone signal is very poor for that room IE cuts off.

My husband was placed at Amber Lodge in February 2026. I have found the staff to be very polite and caring and always happy to help. I do think it's a little out dated but that doesn't affect the quality of care given.

The new manager and deputy are a breath of fresh air and have made visible improvements at Amber Lodge. Communication is improving via email messages and updates now. Staff on the floor have always been brilliant with mum and continue to be fab with her. Unfortunately their brilliant activities coordinator
recently left though so I am waiting to see what will happen in terms of enrichment.
Reply from Carlo Romero, Manager at Amber Lodge Nursing HomeThank you for your feedback and for your kind words about our previous Activities Coordinator - she's a valued member of the team and will be greatly missed by residents and staff alike.

My mum has been a resident at Amber Lodge for over 3 years, in all of that time I have never felt any concerns for mums well being. The staff are very caring and efficient. The dedication and care they gibe to the residents is very reassuring. They have always got a smile and a cheery hello, and that's
from all members of staff. They are also extremely safety conscious so you never find yourself worrying about their welfare. All in all, I cannot fault Amber Lodge. Well done, everyone.

My mum has been a resident at Amber Lodge for 7 years. Before her dementia progressed, she loved interacting with staff and taking part in activities. I feel that my mum is very well taken care of, some staff go above and beyond. The new manager is a breath of fresh air. If I ever have any concerns,
the manager deals with them quickly. Overall, I am very happy with the care my mum receives.

My wife has been a resident at Amber Lodge for the last 16 months, being cared for on a one to one basis. Due to her lack of cognition and poor vision, the staff and carers ensure she receives all the needs she requires. She was very active and walked a lot with assistance, but more recently spends
a lot of time in her room, which is far more suitable than the temporary one she moved into for a few weeks. The staff and carers are friendly and competent, and ensure my wife has her meals, of which there is always a decent choice of food.

Came to visit my mum on their open day. So many happy residents and their families and staff.
Two mini donkeys and a collie, all very well-behaved - gave such pleasure to my mum and all the residents.
All the staff are so kind and caring. They really love and care about their residents. I'm always
made so welcome on my visits to Mum.
A few days later, I visited Mum; she beamed her smile at home and said, "In all the places to love in Welby, I couldn't be any happier than here"!

Mum has recently moved into Amber Lodge from another home as she requires specialist dementia care. The meet and great when she arrived was lovely with everyone introducing themselves to Mum and welcoming her. She was taken to her room which we had been allowed to prepare for Mum before her arrival
so she had familiar things around her. She has settled in well and seems to be enjoying her time in Amber Lodge. She can enjoy watching TV in the lounge with other residents in the evening now rather than being isolated in her room from mid-afternoon because the lounge was not manned in her previous residential home. We were extremely nervous about moving Mum but she has amazed us all and so has Amber Lodge and its staff.
Highly recommend Amber Lodge.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.360)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.360) out of 10 for Amber Lodge Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.460 for Amber Lodge Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (114 Excellents x 5) + (64 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 198 Ratings = 4.46
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Amber Lodge Nursing Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
