Medication Lead – The Beeches Care Home

At Black Swan Care Group, we are currently looking for a Medication Lead to join our team at The Beeches Care Home, on a permanent contract for up to 24 hours per week, with flexibility across both day and night shifts, including weekends.

As Medication Lead, you will take primary responsibility for managing medication systems within the home, as well as supporting residents and ensuring safe and effective medication practices are consistently delivered.

Responsibilities of a Medication Lead:

  • Oversee the administration, storage, recording, auditing, and reordering of medication in line with policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Carry out daily stock takes and investigate any stock discrepancies.
  • Manage PRN protocols and ensure body maps are maintained accurately.
  • Complete regular medication audits (including creams on day 1 and week 3).
  • Assess and monitor staff medication competencies, supporting and mentoring colleagues in best practice.
  • Manage medication changeovers and booking in – with flexibility to complete changeovers at night when required.
  • Contribute to care planning, ensuring residents’ medication and health needs are fully met.
  • Provide hands-on support to residents, promoting independence, dignity, and wellbeing.
  • Work flexibly across the rota, including day, night, weekend, and bank holiday shifts.

Requirements of a Medication Lead:

  • Experience in medication administration within a care setting.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and ability to investigate discrepancies effectively.
  • Positive, caring nature with a proactive ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Team player with the ability to support and guide colleagues.
  • Flexibility to work across both day and night shifts, with weekend availability (every other weekend required).
  • Valid NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care (NVQ Level 3 preferred).
