Activities Coordinator

Job summary

Job Purpose:

To plan, organise, and deliver a range of social, recreational, and therapeutic activities that enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of residents in the care home. The role supports residents in maintaining independence, social interaction, and enjoyment of life.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver a varied programme of group and one-to-one activities suitable for residents’ abilities, interests, and care needs.

• Encourage resident participation and adapt activities to meet individual preferences and mobility levels.

• Work closely with care staff to ensure activities are integrated into residents’ daily routines and care plans.

• Organise special events, outings, and celebrations (e.g. birthdays, holidays, themed days).

• Maintain accurate records of residents’ participation and feedback on activities.

• Support residents in maintaining links with the local community and family members.

• Purchase and maintain activity materials and equipment within a set budget.

• Promote a positive, inclusive, and stimulating environment within the home.

• Comply with all relevant health and safety, safeguarding, and confidentiality policies.

• Compassionate, patient, and person-centred approach.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Creative and resourceful, with good organisational ability.

• Ability to motivate and engage older people and those with dementia.

• Team player, able to work collaboratively with care staff and management.

• Basic IT skills for record keeping and activity planning.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Previous experience in a care home or activity-based role preferred.

• NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards).

• Training in dementia awareness or activity provision desirable.
