Job Description:

Key Purpose

To assist the Housekeeper in setting and maintaining a high standard of appearance of the Home and therefore contributing to the quality of care and lifestyle afforded to each resident. To work as part of the Domestic Team to keep a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the Home and maintaining the current level of cleaning skills within all residents’ bedrooms, communal and staff areas.

Key Responsibilities

1. Housekeeping

a. Use cleaning materials in a cost-effective way and reduce unnecessary wastage;

b. Ensure that adequate stocks of cleaning materials are maintained by informing the housekeeper;

c. On a daily basis:

I. Clean en-suite toilets/bathrooms;

II. Vacuum and clean Residents’ rooms;

III. Clean communal toilets/bathrooms;

IV. Vacuum and clean corridors;

V. Empty all bins in communal areas and offices;

VI. Vacuum, wash and dust communal sitting and dining areas.

d. As directed by the Housekeeper:

I. Shampoo carpets;

II. Clean the inside of all radiators (whilst still attached to the wall);

III. Clean the tumble dryers;

IV. Clean all corridor lights;

V. Vacuum, mop and cobweb stairways;

VI. Vacuum the air conditioning units in the Quiet Room, all other offices;

VII. As required, assist the Laundry Assistant with residents’ laundry needs. Ensuring that every resident enjoys clean and well-maintained laundry and that this is presented to the required standard;

VIII. Vacuum and dust offices as directed by the Housekeeper;

IX. Complete necessary recording paperwork.

2. Health & Safety

a. Ensure safe storage and custody of chemicals;

b. Treat, as directed by the Housekeeper, any emergency spillages or stains on carpets and upholstery;

c. Ensure quick and timely disposal of rubbish;

d. Uphold a high standard of personal hygiene;

e. Report faulty equipment or need for repairs to the Housekeeper;

f. Take care of own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your actions at work, which may include other staff members, residents and visitors;

g. Co-operate with the management team and co-workers to help everyone meet their legal requirements related to health and safety. Raise with the management team any specific queries or concerns relating to health and safety and support them to address health and safety issues.

h. Adhere to COSHH regulations and correct use of PPE.

3. Other

a. Undertake tasks as reasonably required and instructed by the Housekeeper and other appropriate persons related to Rusthall Lodge which are not specifically set out in the job description but are within the scope of your skills, knowledge, experience and responsibility;

b. To be responsible for your own continuous professional development including all mandatory training for the role;

c. Comply with Rusthall Lodge’s Policies and Procedures.
