Overall objectives of the job:

To share with other staff in meeting the personal needs of residents; providing a high standard of care in a way which respects the individuals rights to choice, dignity, and fulfillment and promote independence and individuality.

 To help in the care of the residents’ physical, emotional and social environment; ensuring safe, comfortable and hygienic accommodation and care to all our residents.

Y? To communicate as a member of a team of carers, through accurate record keeping, observations and assessments of the individual needs of each resident, and to report any changes or occurrences to the person in charge of the Home.

Principle duties:

· Discuss with staff going off/on duty any important points regarding residents and any routine household or care tasks that need attention.  

· To complete Care Plans for all residents at end of shift, ensuring that all details necessary are recorded.

· To review, update and record any changes to residents Care Plans on a monthly basis.

· To provide regular 8 weekly supervisions to all Care staff.

· To contact GP or District Nurse as per the residents needs.

Total Care Of The Residents:  

· To supervise and participate in: bathing; hair washing; dressing; lifting; toileting.

· Attending to all personal care, including pressure areas and dealing with continence aids, personal appliances and equipment.

· Caring for well and unwell residents alike in a dignified professional manner.

Laundry:  

· To supervise and participate in: washing; drying; ironing; mending; folding; sorting and putting away of general and personal laundry as and when required.

Cleaning:

· To supervise and participate in if required: assisting with general cleaning duties within the Home, emptying and disinfecting commodes, cleaning toilet and bath areas.

· Maintaining tidiness throughout the home. Stripping and remaking beds as required.

Kitchen:  

· If required, in chef’s absence, to supervise and participate in:  preparation of meals, serving of drinks and meals in an appropriate manner, setting tables and trays, washing-up, and preparation of meat and or vegetables as required. Cleaning and tidying of kitchen, cookers, microwaves, fridges, cupboards and any other duties within the kitchen as required or as directed by the Care Manager.

Occupational:

· To supervise and participate in:  assisting in the psychological and social activities of residents, entertaining residents with activities such as games, outings, and attending to any residents errands /  home errands that may be required.

Management:  

· To take charge of the general running of the shift in the absence of the Care Manager. To supervise care staff and the working environment, making sure that all duties related to the care environment are completed in accordance with the standards set within the policies and procedures of the Home.

· To participate in the on call duty roster in accordance with requirements. Answering the telephone in an appropriate, polite and courteous manner. Taking messages from callers or from visitors, dealing with any queries as required and passing messages to the appropriate person. Answering the doorbell. Dealing with GPs, visitors and other agents associated with the care environment.

· Distribution of medication to residents in accordance with GP instructions and recording the administration of medication appropriately. Assisting residents with making choices - whether choice of menu, clothing or anything else. Supervision of trainees and assisting in the induction of new staff into their duties within the Home. Monitoring of caring, cleaning, catering and laundry within the Home. Ensuring that decisions about care from GPs, district nurses etc. are carried out in the appropriate manner.

Take responsibility for running the shift and supervising and assigning duties to the other staff in the absence of the Care Manager.  

· Ensure the correct administration, witnessing, storage and ordering of drugs in accordance with procedures. Ensure that all aspects of Health and Safety are adhered to and bring any deficiencies to the Care Manager’s attention.
