The Role
We are looking for a passionate and reliable Weekend Chef to join our friendly team at St George’s Park Retirement Village. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality meals and exceptional service to our residents and their visitors, ensuring their dining experience is enjoyable and meets all dietary needs. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver high-quality food and service standards in a welcoming environment for our residents.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensure consistent high standards of food quality, service, hygiene, and cleanliness in the kitchen.
- Maintain compliance with Health & Safety and Food Safety regulations.
- Update and communicate changes to the Food Safety Management System.
- Prepare meals and beverages for residents, including special dietary requirements.
- Manage stock ordering and control within budget guidelines.
- Check and store deliveries appropriately.
- Maintain cleanliness and compliance with COSHH regulations.
- Lead and oversee the team in the kitchen
- Organise staff cover for absences and annual leave.
- Plan and implement new menus and assist with special functions.
Working Hours:
Saturday 09:00 - 20:00
Sunday 07:00 - 18:00
(Total: 20 hours per week)
Requirements
The successful candidate will hold, or be working towards, a City and Guilds 706 1 & 2 qualification, or relevant NVQ qualifications, along with a Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate. As well as this, you will also need to have at least two years’ experience in Catering, or within a similar role.
You will also have the ability to manage a busy kitchen whilst maintaining a high standard of service and professionalism, and the ability to lead and work well within a team.
Good verbal and written communication skills are required to ensure all records are kept up to date including temperature charts, stock lists, order forms, and food consumption details.

Although it is no longer a legal requirement for staff working within CQC regulated Care Homes for Older Adult Care in England to be fully COVID-19 vaccinated, in the best interests of our staff and residents, we have decided to keep it a mandatory requirement to work for our organisation.
