Job summary
We are looking for a cook to join our team at The Old Vicarage. We are a 25 bed Residential home for the elderly, located in a small village called Stockland Bristol, just outside of Bridgwater.
The purpose of the role is to prepare, cook and serve nutritious, well-presented meals that meet the dietary needs, preferences and requirements for our residents, while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, food quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Meal Preparation: Plan, prepare, and cook meals and snacks according to set menus, dietary guidelines, and individual care plans.
Special Diets: Cater for residents with allergies, intolerances, medical conditions, or cultural/religious dietary requirements.
Food Safety & Hygiene: Maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment in line with Food Hygiene Regulations and Health & Safety standards.
Stock Control: Monitor food supplies efficiently, monitoring use-by dates and minimising waste.
Menu Planning: Contribute ideas for seasonal, varied, and appealing menus that promote residents’ health and enjoyment.
Teamwork: Work closely with a kitchen assistant that will support with kitchen needs and with care staff to ensure mealtimes are positive, social experiences for residents.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of temperatures, cleaning schedules, and stock levels.
Skills / Qualifications:
- Knowledge of nutrition and dietary needs
- Previous catering experience
- Understanding of food safety and legislation
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good time management
- Commitment to personal-centred care
- Food Hygiene and Safety level 2 certificate as a minimum
