Job summary

Grange Cottage is a dynamic, progressive and innovative Residential Care Home based in Sutton in the heart of busy Southwest London, which provides person centred care for people living with dementia. Dementia is a syndrome (a group of related symptoms) associated with an ongoing decline of brain function.

We are looking for caring and compassionate Senior Carer who have at least 1 year experience working in a Care Home.

You will play a vital role in supporting our elderly and vulnerable residents daily taking responsibility for their emotional, physical well-being and social needs.

Other Responsibilities Include:

1.  To work in partnership with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver safe and high-quality services for the service users

2.  To support training and supervision of junior and new staff members in all aspects of their work in the home, under the supervision of Senior staff members

3.  To assist service users in all aspects of their care needs (i.e. physical, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual) and to provide supervision and attention when needed ensuring they retain their dignity and individuality.

4.  To pay particular attention to assisting service users who have limited mobility or physical or visual and hearing impairment, making the best use of aids provided.

5.  To assist in the promotion of continence

6.  To assess, plan, implement and review monthly care plan needs for service users

7.  Complete written daily records as instructed and in line with the Company Policies and Procedures.

8.  To assist in framework of social activities in conjunction with the Activity Coordinator by interacting with the service users and helping them continue with hobbies and activities.

9.  To answer the Call Bell System and giving assistance as required. To answer the door and telephone appropriately and respond accordingly and pass on messages promptly

10.  To report on well-being of the service user and liaise with G.P, Chiropodist, O.T, Physiotherapist and other members of the under-Care Team.

11.  To order and administer medication safely and ensure correct recording of all relevant information relating to medication (after satisfactory completion of the Safe Handling of Medicines courses)

12.  To ensure all holistic assessment are carried out when service users are admitted to the home covering Nutritional, Incontinence issues and Risks.

13.  To ensure the effective and efficient use of all home resources.

14.  To ensure care for service user clothing and rooms are named and clothing are marked and stored away properly.

15.  To escort service users on social outings, walks, hospital visits, etc.

16.  To carry out regular checks on service users as per plan or at intervals as determined by senior staff member.

17.  To participate in staff and service user and shift coordinator meetings as and when required.

18.  Ensure that you complete all mandatory. statutory and other courses which is appropriate to the other job role.

You should also be able to work well alone and as part of a team.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Genuine interest in and experience of working with service user suffering from dementia
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Minimum N/SVQ Level 3 in Care sector
  • Qualification in Safe Handling of medicines
  • Commitment to the Home aims and objectives.
