The Role

As a Senior Care Assistant, you will take a lead role on shift, ensuring care is delivered safely, effectively, and in line with expected standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and supporting the care team on shift

  • Maintaining high standards of person-centred care

  • Supporting residents with personal care and clinical needs

  • Assisting nurses with care delivery and escalation of concerns

  • Reviewing and checking documentation and care records

  • Supporting new staff and ensuring effective onboarding on shift

  • Acting as a point of contact for families and professionals when required

Performance Expectations (Important)

This is a leadership role, and high standards are essential.

You will be expected to:

  • Ensure care is delivered safely, consistently, and in line with best practice

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete care documentation

  • Monitor staff performance on shift and address issues promptly

  • Escalate concerns appropriately and without delay

  • Lead by example in attitude, professionalism, and work ethic

  • Support and maintain standards that meet regulatory expectations and inspection readiness

Support and guidance will always be provided — however, accountability is a key part of this role.

Shift Pattern

  • Day shift: 07:45 – 20:00

  • Night shift: 20:00 – 08:00

  • Fixed 2-week rolling rota

  • Alternate weekends required

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent)

  • Previous experience as a Senior Care Assistant or in a similar role

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and care standards

  • Experience supervising or supporting staff on shift

  • Good communication and organisational skills

  • Confidence using digital care systems (or willingness to learn)
