Job summary
Grove Park are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Care Assistants to join our team on a full time or bank basis.
To work with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of the service users in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence and to help in the general day to day activities of the home.
Main Duties
· To assist in providing the highest standards of personal care and attention for the service users under the direction and supervision of senior nurses.
· To participate fully in the overall care of the service users with other staff. To assist with washing, dressing, toileting and personal hygiene as per care plan.
· To provide clinical support to senior staff.
· Duties in dining room include serving residents, assisting residents to eat, clear away dirty dishes, wipe down tables etc.
· Assist with the implementation of planned nursing care under the direction and supervision of senior staff.
· At times, assisting the Activities team in providing physical and mental stimulation to the residents
· To make and change beds, tidy rooms, bathrooms, toilets and do cleaning where necessary. Ensure that commode pots are cleaned and disinfected immediately after use.
· Show responsibility and care towards residents properties e.g personal clothing, dentures, glasses and all other belongings, ensuring that these are properly recorded and marked. If any item is in need of repair to report it to the senior staff / administrator.
· Answer call systems in a timely manner
· Greet visitors, ensure that use the visitors log and escort to appropriate residents room.
· To be polite and helpful at all times e.g. appropriate conduct and attitude towards service users, visitors and colleagues at all times.
· To read and write reports; take part in staff and residents meetings as directed.
· To perform such other duties as required or directed by the senior staff which may reasonably fall within the scope or range of the post, to ensure the comfort of the service users and / or the smooth running of the home.
Observe the following in relation to the Home's Policies, Procedures and Guidelines
- To be friendly, courteous and respectful of other staff and residfents at all times.
- Maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to residents and to the Home.
- Be fully aware of and strictly adhere to the Home's Health and Safety Policy.
- Be familiar with and strictly adhere to the Home's Fire Safety and Emergency Procedures and to be conscious of the need of the safety of the residents.
- Report any incidents/untoward occurrences and accidents and complete necessary documentation as directed immediately.
- Be familiar with the Control of Infection Policy and the measures to prevent cross infection/infestations. Report any suspicion of such to the person in charge
- Exercise due care in the use and storage of equipment and report any damage.
- Report and record any complaints that visitors or staff express and any reparatory action taken.
- Comply with written agreed conditions of employment; hours of duty, uniform and time keeping.
- Demonstrate a professional approach to work in accordance with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England (published by Skills for Care)
Training and Development
- Participate fully in the induction programme planned for you upon taking up employment.
- Identify own learning needs, participate in the Home's supervision programme.
- Attend fire lectures, fire drills, staff meetings, and training sessions as instructed.
- Attend a Moving People Safely course before undertaking the handling / transfers of service users.
- To have knowledge and use of any equipment within the Home, to check its usability and its readiness for use.
Staff may be required to cover day and night shifts to suit the needs of the Home.
Shifts are 8.00-20.00 / 20.00-8.00
