A seventy year old Ardingly man is back in the saddle again riding his bicycle to maintain his fitness thanks to a knee replacement operation at the Care UK run Sussex Orthopaedic NHS Treatment Centre, at Haywards Heath.
Michael Lucas, from Oaklands, Ardingly, used to enjoy cycling around the area but had to give up his healthy lifestyle when knee problems made the exercise too painful. He underwent a knee replacement operation at the Treatment Centre last summer and within days he was up and about and the limp that had become a part of his life had disappeared.
Now Michael is back on his bike again and can even run, all without the pain that he had become used to.
Said Michael: “My experience at the Sussex Orthopaedic NHS Treatment Centre was brilliant: All the staff, the food and the care was excellent – they really cared. It is so good to get back to being so active again.”
Pamela Mackie, General Manager at the Sussex Orthopaedic NHS Treatment Centre said: “It is very heartening to hear stories such as this one concerning Michael. We feel we are here to make a difference to people’s lives and Michael is an excellent example of someone who has resumed an active lifestyle thanks to the efforts of the wonderful team we have here.”
The Sussex Orthopaedic NHS Treatment Centre carried out more than five and a half thousand procedures in the last twelve months, including 403 knee replacements. In all the Centre has performed almost 13,000 procedures since opening in June 2006.
