It just goes to show that poetry is something for all ages, as 90-year-old Gleavewood resident, Vera Shaw, has proven. Picking up her pen to compose a few lines for National Poetry Day last week, Vera, originally from Sale, dedicated her efforts to her CLS care home carers.

The talented wordsmith said: “I have always enjoyed writing poetry, and I just wanted to show everyone at Gleavewood how much we all appreciate their hard work.”

Julie Gerrard, Home Manager at Gleavewood, added: “It was wonderful to receive Vera’s poem. Our work is so important to us, and knowing how happy the residents are makes it all the more special and worthwhile.”

Vera’s touching message reads:

The carers at Gleavewood,

Who take care of you and make you feel good,

Supporting you in every way,

And making sure that you’re okay,

They wait on you hand and foot, with smiles on their faces,

Doing a good job, even tying up laces,

It’s a job that needs care and understanding,

Even saying goodnight at the end of the day.
