Relatives Give Limewood The Thumps Up!

Limewood, a new dementia care home in Stafford, opened at the end of August.

The purpose-built building will provide residential, nursing and respite care for 59 people with dementia.

Operated by award-winning not-for-profit Choices Housing Association, the building is part of Northfield Village – a partnership project with The Wrekin Housing Trust and Staffordshire County Council.

24 Residents transferred from a nearby council-run home, The Foxwalls, which is due to be demolished to provide space for general needs housing. Relatives assisting in the move were all impressed with the quality of the furnishings, light and airy living areas and the move away from institutional care. Other residents will move in over the coming weeks.

Attached to the care home is a reality street – the High Street at Limewood – complete with a cinema, pub, hairdressers and information shop. This will provide an information, advice and support service for the local community, and help to break down the stereotypes surrounding dementia diagnosis.
