Visitors mingled with residents in the canal-side gardens of Bridgeside Lodge Care Home this weekend (Sunday 7 September), when staff hosted a garden party as part of the Angel Canal Festival.
The sun shone as the residents welcomed families and festival-goers to join their celebrations, which included a barbecue and a host of stalls, with the home’s catering team preparing a large cake for a ‘guess the weight of the cake’ competition, and a prize tombola, drawn by the Mayor of Islington, Councillor Theresa Debono.
“We were very lucky that the weather was so good, which meant that many of our residents were able to enjoy the late-summer sunshine during the festival,” comments centre manager, Fatma Makalo. “We enjoyed the live music from the Festival brass band and our own performers – singers Lisa Westhoff and John Spires – performing in the gardens. Even the Mayor danced along when she popped in! There is a wonderful feeling of community based around the canal, and it was wonderful to throw open the gates to let festival visitors mingle with our residents.”
