Happy 104th birthday to Joan Vollmer of The Willows in Mobberley!

Born in 1911 under the reign of King George V, Joan is the home's longest lived resident. Everyone loved hearing all about her life, including her voluntary work - she helped to found Meals on Wheels in Cheshire.

The home put on a proper party for Joan, including musical entertainment, cake and flowers.

Ralph Manners-Wood, her son in law, said, "The Willows is a wonderful home and they put on a lovely cake and flowers and there was excellent entertainment.”

Activities Co-ordinator Amanda Drayton added, "Joan has been a resident of The Willows for the past 10 years and was delighted to attend a wonderful surprise birthday party".

Joan was surrounded by family, residents, staff and friends, who all enjoyed being entertained by the fantastic Charleston Charlies, who ended their programme by leading us all in a rapturous singalong of ‘Happy Birthday’.

The birthday cake was paraded in and Joan took great delight in blowing the candles out and cutting the first slice of cake.

After a speech by Joan’s son-in-law glasses of champagne were raised and a toast for Joan was announced, before three cheers were given, which Joan seemed really touched by.
