It's all go at Burlington Court Care Home in Glasgow

Providing specialist resident experiences is the back bone at Four Seasons Health Care. Their residents are all unique, have their own likes and dislikes. It’s to this end the care teams in Four Seasons' homes work hard to provide activities and experiences that the residents will enjoy.

At Burlington Court Care Home in Glasgow the team have been working hard over the past couple of weeks, ensuring that no two weeks were the same for the residents. Some of the activities put on for the residents have been summarised below.

A day to reminisce

The care home has a good relationship with the Glasgow Museum, and receives a resource kit full of different props and activities for the residents to do. The latest kit from the museum enabled the residents to spend a day reminiscing about the war, as they looked into an evacuee’s suitcase. The residents got hands on with the props which included a gas mask and some pyjamas.

Residents treated to some gentle exercise

When people think of activities that are run in a care home, exercise probably isn’t high up the list. However, residents were treated to a gentle exercise programme at the home. They had their hand eye coordination tested and played with beach balls and bats and balls. A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all, with residents working up a little bit of a sweat.

BINGO bonanza

The halls were ringing with cries of ‘two little ducks’ ‘legs eleven’ and ‘two fat ladies’ as residents embraced a BINGO bonanza at the home. All of the residents had a fantastic afternoon, and some certainly got their chocolate fix as some of the prizes were their favourite chocolate bars.

Goals bring back sports memories

For some residents, there’s nothing better than watching football, rugby, cricket or some other form of sport on the TV. Watching their favourite (or not so favourite) team battle it out to secure the points for their competition can have the residents shouting at the TV. At half time they were treated to a pie and Bovril which usually makes up for the sometimes dismal performance of the teams.

Salvation Army serenade residents

A variety of different people and organisations come into the home and entertain the residents. The most recent arrivals were the Salvation Army, who spent a couple of hours serenading residents and telling them stories.

Theatre experience

Another organisation who recently visited the home was Shoogalie Road Productions who put on a theatre show called ‘Sentimental Journey’ for the residents.

Gwen McKenzie, Home Manager said: “Providing activities for our residents is very important to us. By getting to know them on a personal level, we can tailor some of the activities we do to ensure that the residents get the most out of the experiences.

“Seeing our resident’s faces light up and listening to them talking about everything they’ve done with such enthusiasm is very rewarding. “
