Doncaster home, St Mary’s Nursing Home, announces an overall positive GOOD rating from a recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) report this month.

Representatives from CQC undertook an unannounced visit to the home on 5th and 6th December, and the report has come through rating the home good for being safe, effective, caring, and a responsive and well-led service.

The home provides 24-hour nursing care for up to 56 older people, some of whom are living with dementia.

The report observed an overall positive experience within the home, with staff, residents and family members giving good feedback about life at St Mary’s. It highlighted that people were treated with respect, kindness and compassion, and that there was good staff morale and interaction. Staff respected people's preferences and ensured their privacy and dignity was maintained. Activities were commended, with a programme events displayed near the dining room, which included reminiscence therapy, arts and crafts, and pampering sessions.

Ratings are given based on observations of the home by the unannounced CQC team, and on conversations with staff, residents and their relatives. The report is part of CQC's programme of inspections, with all adult social care services being given a rating.

Comments included; “We saw lunchtime on the day we visited was a relaxed and enjoyable experience for people who used the service.” "The carers and nurses are wonderful; they can't do enough for you." "I am very happy with the care here."

Sheila Horrocks, Home Manager, commented; “We pride ourselves on the quality of care we give to our residents and the level of happiness and homeliness that we create here at the home. Our aim is to give the best care to our residents, and for them to get the most out of their time with us. This positive report from CQC gives us a real boost that we are doing the right thing.”
