Residents at Care South’s Wickmeads care home in Southbourne have experienced life behind the scenes in a recent visit to AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium.

Residents were invited to the football club for their very own ‘away day’ which started off with a talk from the Community Sports Trust team about the new stadium, followed by a tour of the changing rooms and treatment areas where players recover after the matches, with ice baths.

Residents were also given a full stadium tour and were led out onto the pitch through the Cherries’ tunnel, many of the residents were surprised at how large the stadium felt from a footballer’s perspective stood on the pitch.

The stadium tour was thanks to the ongoing partnership between AFC Bournemouth and Care South, which began in 2014. The partnership allows residents, home care users and staff to get involved in the variety of activities, including meeting players, coffee mornings, walking football and visits to the Vitality Stadium.

Karen Taylor, Home Manager at Wickmeads, commented: “Care South has a fantastic relationship with AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust and our residents love getting involved with the variety of activities and were thrilled to be invited to the stadium. At Wickmeads it’s really important to us that we keep our residents involved in their local community and continue meeting lots of new people. Our partnership with the Trust is one we are very proud of and we look forward to another extra special visit soon.”
