Second World War veteran, who is among the last remaining survivors of the HMT Lancastria disaster, has celebrated his 101st birthday in a joint celebration at the home.

Ernest Beesley celebrated alongside resident Barbara Poulton, who turned 95, where they spent the day with family and friends at Bupa’s Clare House Care Home. Guests enjoyed entertainment from the residents’ favourite jazz players, James Cowdery from the JJZ Productions.

Last year Ernest celebrated the milestone with a Tennessee Waltz and afternoon tea at the home, plus a surprise ride in a vintage car. Speaking of the day, Ernest said: “The party could not have been better, [Bupa staff] Amy and Teresa worked really hard, and I am treated with such kindness and respect”.

Family of Barbara, 95, said: “We are amazed at how well Barbara has blossomed since being at Clare House, when she first arrived she was very frail.”

Clare House Home Manager, Jeanette Gittens, said: “We are delighted that both residents enjoyed their day. It’s always great fun celebrating residents’ birthdays in the home, so we were particularly excited to celebrate two huge milestones".

Bupa Clare House is a carefully converted cottage hospital in the peaceful area of Uxbridge, offering nursing, respite, convalescence and palliative care.
