Exeter based, residential and nursing home, Brendoncare Woodhayes, is celebrating after the Care Quality Commission (CQC) continued to rate it as ‘good’ in all categories, following an inspection in January.

The home in St Leonard’s Road, Exeter, provides residential and nursing care for 24 residents. Its aim is to enable older people to live independent, happy and fulfilling lives. During its inspection, the CQC rated the home ‘good’ in all five criteria of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. In the report, published recently, it noted that people received person-centred care which was responsive to their specific needs and wishes. Residents had access to a wide range of group and individual activities and events, and these were tailored to meet specific needs and interests, enabling residents to live an active and fulfilling life.

The CQC also recognised the staff’s sensitivity to people’s wishes when they reached end of life care and they received compassionate and supportive care. Staff demonstrated that they knew the residents well and the residents’ families were positive about the care provided.

The CQC noted that staff were well supported through training, supervision and appraisal. The staff worked effectively together to ensure residents’ needs were communicated, and supported them to access healthcare professionals when they needed them.

Jonny Roberts, the Care Home Manager, commented, “The latest CQC report on Brendoncare Woodhayes recognises the commitment and dedication of all members of the team. I am proud of everyone who works here and their determination to support each resident in the best way possible to meet individual needs. We are pleased the inspection recognises that our residents are treated with privacy and dignity and to be as independent as possible.”
