Students from local primary school, Clermiston Primary, joined the staff and residents at new build care home in Edinburgh, Queens Manor to bury a time capsule marking the recent opening of the home.
Students from the pupil council at the school of various ages were selected to choose the items to put into the capsule, including a copy of the First News newspaper, the Clermiston school tie, A Pupil Council Pin badge, a science book, information about the school and local area, and some items of popular culture from the last 12 months.
One of the students wrote a letter to their future selves asking “Has Brexit happened, and what’s the country like now?”
The students were presented with a certificate and a gift voucher from Queens Manor care teams for their contributions to the capsule. The home’s hospitality team also provided a selection of refreshments for everyone to celebrate the special occasion.
Courtney Moncur the home service advisor at Barchester, said: “I’m pleased that we can involve our residents and the local school in this momentous occasion. It’s a very exciting time as the home is brand new, and when the time capsule has been dug up 50 years from now, the new care home will be long-established in the Edinburgh community.”
Dana Henderson, principal teacher at Clermiston Primary said: “Our pupils really enjoyed their afternoon at Queens Manor, burying the time capsule full of things from the ‘here and now’ that they think would be interesting for future selves!
Our Pupil Council loved selecting objects and we ended up having the most wonderful conversations while we decided what went in. We can’t wait to unearth them at Queens Manor 50 years from now!
It is important to Clermiston Primary School that we build meaningful relationships with our surrounding communities and are looking forward to working together on a regular basis. Thank you to the team at Queens Manor for inviting us to this special occasion!”
