The annual Newport Pagnell Carnival is hosted in the town and organised by local volunteers.

Each year, a new theme is chosen that runs across the carnival, inspiring the way people dress themselves and their floats. The theme for the 2019 carnival was ‘Best of British’ so Castlemead Court decided to go with a Mary Poppins inspired float.

The care home take part each year and are well known for their inventive float displays and taking home a variety of trophies.

Team members and residents of Castlemead had prepared for two months, hand-making decorations and structures they added to their float to give it the extra ‘wow factor’. A spoonful of sugar was on board the float and a colorful ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ sign that would surely turn heads on the street!

On the day of the carnival, residents and their friends and family members gathered outside the front of the care home to watch the float go past and cheer on those who are taking part. All of the floats then gathered at the carnival where judging commenced and trophies were awarded to participants.

Although Castlemead produced a float to be very proud of, another local business won the ‘Best interpretation of theme award’ with a competitive Mary Poppins float (an award that Castlemead have won since 2014). Castlemead didn’t go home empty handed though, as they picked up the ‘Commercial Small Business Award’ for the eye catching display they put on.

After the carnival, everyone headed back to the home to have a party and celebrate their hard work, adding another item to their trophy cabinet!
