Castleford Care Home praised for excellent service

CQC report hails Newfield Lodge staff as ‘kind, caring and compassionate’ Staff and residents at Newfield Lodge care home in Castleford are celebrating after receiving an overall rating of ‘good’ from regulatory body, the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The home have upheld the rating from their last report published in 2017, whilst making improvements to achieve the ‘good’ rating across the board in all five key areas of care: ‘responsive’ ‘safe’, ‘effective’, ‘caring’ and ‘well-led’.

Newfield Lodge on Brookfield Avenue was praised for its service after the latest unannounced inspections in October this year.

The report cited that residents felt safe, cared for and supported in making decisions about their daily lives, with one resident commenting that: “everyone is lovely and nothing is too much trouble”. Relatives also felt involved in their loved ones’ care planning, with one noting that staff found out everything about her mum before she moved in to ensure her care was tailored to her exact needs.

Inspectors also praised staff for their teamwork, stating “the whole staff team, not just the care staff, were friendly and cheerful taking time to stop and chat with people.”

Newfield Lodge, which is operated by Ideal Carehomes, was also commended on its regular activities, such as the monthly tea dance, non-denominational church service, and visits from local school children who read, sing and do arts and crafts with residents. The homes’ ‘wish tree’ initiative, which sees staff grant residents’ wishes, was also singled out for praise.

They always put the residents’ needs first and we were delighted to read the glowing feedback in the report.”
