Reviews

8.9 Newfield Lodge has a Review Score of 8.9 (8.911)

The Review Score of 8.9 (maximum of 10) for Newfield Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 24 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Newfield Lodge in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.364 for Newfield Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (130 Excellents x 5) + (113 Goods x 4) + (27 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 272 Ratings = 4.364

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.547 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Newfield Lodge is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 12.8 positive Reviews (64 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 7 Reviews ÷ 12.8 Target = 0.547

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I find the atmosphere in the home comfortable and relaxing and the staff generally pleasant and helpful. Most of the residents are friendly and fairly easy to get on with. I used to enjoy playing bingo on a Wednesday but unfortunately, we have not had it for the last couple of months.

Very smart clean home. Staff very friendly and willing to discuss with and involve family and friends in care of all residents.
Good activity rotation and selection, always something going on to involve or entertain residents and their visitors.
Food appears to be very good, and plentiful if needed. Nice to see residents encouraged to eat in groups at properly laid tables! But also allowed to eat alone if desired. Pop up restaurants are a frequent occurrence with great menus.
Home is run very well, always well staffed and the manager has an open door if you need to discuss anything, however minor.
Clear contracts without hidden subsections so no misconceptions of what expected or provided.
So glad we found this home for my mother, peace of mind for me and good care for Mum.
Totally recommend this home to anyone looking for a private provider with overall Good CQC rating.

Lovely, clean, modern, staff good. However, when we looked around I was assured my cousin who is a resident would be with similar people as herself, however, a lot of residents seem to have dementia. My cousin is self-funded and pays top price but has to provide own drinking chocolate and horlicks if she wants a cup before bedtime. Meals are good.

My mother has been a resident for over 12 months. She has been cared for very well even though at times she has been very difficult. The staff always seem caring, friendly and patient. The meals are very good quality and plentiful. I do have a couple of suggestions relating to the dementia unit. Fruit does not seem to be offered as much as in the resident's unit I understand it cannot be on display. Cushions designed for back support would be beneficial to some residents (we purchased some for mum) Incontinent pants rather than pads would be an improvement.

Carers are all very good at their job. The home has more activities than before. My only thing I would like to improve is the cleanliness of my mum's room maybe it could be cleaned and hoovered more often.

The care staff at Newfield Lodge are exceptionally patient with quite difficult residents. I know my mother is safe and in capable hands. If anyone is reading this whilst in the process of choosing a home I would recommend Newfield Lodge.
P.S. Whilst checking homes out use your nose. Low smells =Good home.

Newfield Lodge is light and airy with a friendly, warm atmopshere, and the carpets are regularly shampooed so no awful smells. The staff are brilliant, caring, friendly and so patient, nothing is too much trouble. The food is good with hot lunches but also hot and cold options at breakfast and teatime. They also have optional extras of a hairdresser and chiropodist, both very good and reasonably priced. I consider that my mum is well looked after, she is happy, well fed and her personal needs cared for.

Family picked this care home for mum as we think it's the best. It looks more like a hotel than a care home, which we think is very nice. The food is excellent and the staff is excellent too. You can just tell by walking into the care home that its a lovely place with lovely staff and the maintenance man is excellent too. He's so busy all the time, we visit every day and always get a good welcome. We have mum living there, also mother-in-law.

We understand that the new manager is in the process of making changes to improve the care home as much as in her power. We look forward to seeing improvements in this area. Overall the staff are caring and show respect to the residents, the most important factor.
We have viewed 8 care homes in the area before selecting Newfield Lodge. I feel my mother is in good hands. I would like to see more activities for her mental well-being and stimulation as she has dementia but this care home is by far the best and we are grateful to have found it.

We feel the cleanliness of the rooms and kitchen could be improved, the kitchen area is always untidy and unclean. Our mums bedroom needs a thorough clean on a regular basis. There are some of us who purchased small mugs for our mum but these appear to be finding their way all over the unit. Also my sister and I do not like random food i.e crisps and biscuits left for residents to eat as and when as this is unhygienic.

In the past month since new manager has taken over the home has improved in many areas, staff moral has also improved greatly. Activities are more obvious than previously too and overall I am pleased with the care my mother is receiving. Most of the staff do a great job and undertake problems to a very good standard and carry out personal cares in a professional and caring manner and treat my mother and support her in a dignified manner.

Mum resided in Newfield Lodge for 3 years. The staff are always friendly & caring, treating Mum with respect and dignity when she couldn't speak up for herself. The carer's role is a very taxing one and probably one of the most thankless I have ever encountered, as aside from the day to day caring, they require the utmost patience and tolerance, not only with the ones in their care but with their relatives. The staff at Newfield always act with professionalism & compassion and in my experience, nothing is too much trouble for them.
Being able to trust Mum to the care of these dedicated staff made dealing with the difficulties of dementia & the effects it had on her, slightly easier to bear.
The facilities, food, rooms & activities are good/excellent. Unfortunately Mum was unable to appreciate most of them but in comparison to other places we looked at, they are.
I would recommend Newfield in a heartbeat to anyone in the same situation we found ourselves in 3 years ago. They contradict the highly publicised 'nightmare stories' of residential care that everyone is so keen to talk about these days & I believe in recognising credit where credit is due.

On the occasions we have visited the home we have been greeted in a friendly and kind manner at all times. The home is always spotlessly clean and the staff are friendly and approachable. The lady we visit is extremely happy with her care, food, room, activities and all the staff. She enjoys fish Fridays very much and enjoys reading the information on the notice boards detailing menu and activities on a daily basis. We went to visit in December and the home was decorated beautifully. They were having a Xmas party the following day and our friend was very excited re this event and entertainment. We were also invited (could not attend). Excellent.

My wife, who has vascular dementia, entered Newfield January 2013. Her condition has slowly declined and she has been wheelchair bound and double incontinence for more than twelve months. Considering it is a residential/dementia care home, not nursing, her care has been very good and it would be churlish of me to criticise anything other than staff members which is common in most private care establishments!
