The Dignity Tree was created by the home’s manager, Claire Cowper, and our certified dignity champion, Claire Anslow, who are both so passionate about this subject. The Dignity Tree is displayed within our home and as a whole-team approach, staff proudly held up leaves with a significant word to describe what dignity means to them.
The main ones were 'choice', 'values & beliefs', 'compassion', 'empathy', 'respect', and 'person-centred'.
The tree is extremely important to us because dignity is listening to what residents want, giving them information, involving them in planning and decision-making, treating them with dignity and respect, and enabling them to have choice and control over their lives and the services they receive.
Those who provide support respect the human rights of each individual.
