Aliwal Manor Care Home received a beautiful basket full of wonderful knitted blue poppies. These were donated by Kim Kynaston who has started the Facebook page “The Blue Poppy Appeal.
Kim designed the appeal as a tribute in recognition of NHS, frontline key workers and all the hard work they do, as well as a dedicated platform to raise money for families affected by COVID-19.
Volunteers who are members of the Facebook page design and make the blue poppies, which are a sign of remembrance for those impacted by the virus. They are also a celebration for all the hard work of frontline workers during the pandemic and are sold in the local community to raise money and awareness.
The residents at Aliwal Manor were keen to support the appeal and show solidarity alongside those who are keeping them safe. Lifestyle Coordinator, Sarah, worked her way around the home explaining both the appeal and the symbolism of the blue poppies and why they were important. Soon after, a box of poppies was passed around with everyone choosing their own to wear proudly or display inside their rooms.
Kim asks that everyone who gets involved with the appeal wears a poppy and take lots of photos to share back to the Facebook page as a celebration of love and happiness during difficult times. Here is our very own Harry proudly choosing his own poppy.
If you would like to get involved with the Blue Poppy Appeal you can join the group here.
Donations can also be made to the cause through the group.
